Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation scores high this weekend.

The latest installment of the Tom Cruise spy saga Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation debuted with a pretty strong $56 million opening weekend. It is a great win for the superstar as few of his last films were not able to perform to the same level at the box office. Riding with strong reviews and positive word of mouth the went on to have Tom Cruise’s third-biggest opening weekend ever. That barely misses the franchise record for largest opening, which is still held by 2000’s Mission: Impossible 2 at $57.8 million. As of yesterday, the film earned $65 million from its overseas debut, in markets that made up 40% of the total foreign marketplace, for a $121m global debut. That’s around 49% better than the prior film’s respective debut in those respective territories. Ghost Protocol made a ridiculous $485m overseas.

The other new release, Vacation , which is a sequel to the original Vacation,  opened on Wednesday with $3.8 million and earned another $2.5m on Thursday. As such, its $14.8m weekend brings its cume to $21.172m thus far.
